Superpowered Creature Creator

Step #1

Think of your favourite animals. Now think of their amazing parts and abilities. Lions have huge teeth. Eagles have super eyesight. Octopuses and pythons have excellent camouflage. Moles have unstoppable digging paws. Spiders make amazing webs for capturing dinner. Look at pictures of animals if you need some inspiration! Brainstorm with your friends! Make a great big list of amazing animal parts. Write them on your classroom blackboard!

Step #2

Now pick your favourite four parts from four different animals. These parts DO NOT need to belong to the same animal—in fact, it’s better if they don’t/ Your superpowered parts could be a leopard’s spots, a shark’s jaws, a bird’s beak, and a snake’s forked tongue. No combination is too weird. No combination is weird enough!

Step #3

Think up a really cool superpowered name for each of those four parts. A lion’s teeth could be FEROCIOUS FANGS. An eagle’s eyesight could be LAZER EYEBALLS. Here are some ideas: SUPERSONIC SPEED, FANTASTIC FEATHERS, SUPER SLITHER, SUPER STINK, CLAWS OF DEATH, THE NOSE OF WONDER, BIONIC BARKING!

Step #4

Take four sticky notes. Write one of your superpowered parts on each sticky note and doodle a little drawing.

Step #5

Here’s the fun part. Get a big piece of paper, stick your four sticky notes down one side, and draw your new superpowered creature using a combination of each of those parts! How will they all fit together? Get as wild as you like. Don’t forget to give your new creature a name!

What next?

Imagine how your superpowered creature would live. Is it big or tiny? Does it live in a forest, a desert, or maybe under a mushroom? What does it eat? Does it have predators? How does it attack or protect itself? Can it swim as well as fly? Does it like ice cream and parties? Does it fight ninjas and snakes? Maybe write a story about your creature.
